Chapter 01
The signs that mean call somebody
Loud or unusual noises, a door that opens unevenly or crabs to one side, slow or jerky movement, visibly broken springs or cables, and a door that will not open or close fully. Any one of those is the door telling you something has gone out of tolerance.
A door that has started to bind will usually keep working for a while, and then fail at the least convenient possible moment. Most of the emergency calls we take were a noise somebody had been living with for a month.

Springs and cables are the dangerous part
Torsion springs hold enough stored energy to badly injure someone, and they are under that tension whether the door is open or shut. The same is true of the cables that run off the drums. This is genuinely not a homeowner job, and we would say that even if we did not do it for a living.
If a spring has gone, do not try to lift the door by hand and do not keep running the opener. Both make it worse and one of them can hurt you.
Chapter 03
Repair first, replace only if it is the honest answer
We assess the door to work out whether a repair is possible before suggesting a replacement, and we look for the most cost effective solution rather than the biggest one. A single damaged section can often be swapped rather than replacing the whole door.
Costs vary with the fault, so we give a clear estimate before starting any work. We typically provide same day or next day service depending on the schedule and how complex the repair is.
