Chapter 01
A door that exists to close once
A fire door spends its whole life held open and doing nothing. Its entire purpose is to release and close when the detection system tells it to, holding a rated compartment line long enough for people to get out.
Because it does nothing day to day, nobody notices when it has quietly stopped being able to do it. That is the risk this equipment carries.

Drop testing is not optional paperwork
Fire doors are required to be drop tested periodically, which means releasing the door under its own weight, confirming it closes fully and at the right speed, and then resetting the mechanism. It is a specific procedure and it needs a record.
We carry out drop testing and resetting, and we will tell you plainly if a door fails and what it needs.
Chapter 03
Governed by the authority, not by us
Fire rated assemblies are life safety equipment and the requirements that apply to your building come from your local authority having jurisdiction and your own insurer, not from a door company.
What we will do is inspect, test, service, repair and replace the equipment, and give you an honest account of its condition. If you are unsure what interval applies to your building, ask your AHJ and we will work to it.
