Chapter 01
The case for speed is a cost case
If a fork truck waits ten seconds at a door two hundred times a day, that is over half an hour of paid time standing still, every day. A high speed door turns that into a fraction of it.
The second argument is the building envelope. Every second an external opening stands open is conditioned air leaving and dust, weather and insects arriving.

Where they earn their keep
Internally, between a warehouse and a temperature controlled area, or between a clean process and a dirty one. Externally, on a dispatch opening that never really stops.
Roll up fabric curtains suit high cycle internal openings. External openings need a curtain and a frame specified for wind load, which in southeast Michigan is not a formality.
Chapter 03
They are maintenance items, by design
A high speed door is a machine that runs constantly, so it wants a real service interval rather than an annual look. Photo eyes, safety edges, the bottom beam and the curtain all wear at a rate you can predict once you know the cycle count.
Most are designed so that a curtain knocked out of its guides by a fork truck can be reset rather than replaced. We will show your people how to do the reset if that is useful.
